CO Pharmacist Training on Emergency Contraception

MergerWatch is pleased to help fund a pharmacist training series on emergency contraception (EC) in Colorado this month.

The training entitled Emergency Contraception: Dispensing Meds & Dispelling Myths will be taught by pharmacist Don Downing (University of Washington), a champion for increased availability of EC in the pharmacy setting. Co-presenting the legal and policy issues on EC unique to Colorado will be representatives from Prevention First Colorado, a coalition of state organizations that support women & girl's reproductive health.

Based on past trainings, we have found that pharmacist-led educational programming gives participants the opportunity to have balanced discussions about the science and provision of emergency contraception. Including policy discussion also offers participants the chance to better understand current federal and state laws regarding the drug.

With technical assistance from Central CO Area Health Education Centers, the training will be simultaneously broadcast via video conferencing to rural areas of Colorado. These locations were chosen based on research conducted by NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado last year on the availability of emergency contraception in pharmacies across the state.
